Meta Ads

Meta Ads Management for Small Businesses

Meta Ads management covers running paid campaigns across Facebook and Instagram — campaign structure, audience strategy, creative production and testing, budget management and conversion tracking. Unlike search, nobody on Meta is looking for you. You are interrupting, which means the creative has to do the work of earning attention before anything else can happen.

Meta Ads is the demand-creation half of our paid ads management. Where Google Ads puts you in front of people already searching, Meta puts you in front of people who were not thinking about you at all — which is both its weakness and the reason it can grow a business faster than search alone ever will.

The platform has changed considerably. Detailed interest targeting used to be the main lever; privacy changes and Meta's own machine learning have shifted almost all of that weight onto creative. In practice the algorithm is now better at finding your buyers than most manual targeting, provided you give it enough varied creative to work with and accurate signal about what a good outcome looks like.

What actually drives Meta performance.

The order of importance has changed. Most accounts are still optimising the old way.

01

Creative is the targeting

The ad itself now does most of the audience selection — Meta learns who responds and finds more of them. Which means creative volume and variety matter more than granular audience settings, and creative fatigue is the most common cause of declining performance.

02

Signal quality

The algorithm optimises toward the events you send it. Weak or inaccurate tracking after browser privacy changes means it optimises toward the wrong people. Server-side conversion data is now close to essential rather than a nice-to-have.

03

The offer

Interruption advertising is unforgiving of a mediocre proposition. On search you benefit from existing intent; here you have to be genuinely compelling within about two seconds. No amount of media buying fixes an offer people do not want.

01

Account structure & strategy

Consolidated campaign architecture that gives the algorithm enough volume to exit the learning phase, with clean separation between prospecting and retargeting so you can see what each is genuinely contributing.

02

Creative strategy & testing

A continuous pipeline of concepts, hooks and formats tested systematically — static, video and user-generated style. This is the main performance lever, so it gets the most attention.

03

Audience & retargeting

Broad prospecting with proper signal, plus retargeting sequenced by intent — someone who abandoned a basket needs a different message from someone who watched half a video.

04

Catalogue & Advantage+ for retail

Product feed setup, dynamic ads and Advantage+ shopping campaigns configured properly, with exclusions and creative controls rather than left entirely automatic.

05

Conversion API & tracking

Server-side tracking so conversion data reaches Meta reliably despite browser restrictions. Without it the algorithm is working from incomplete information and performance suffers quietly.

06

Reporting against real outcomes

Platform-reported results reconciled against what your business actually banked, because Meta's attribution will claim credit generously. We report on blended acquisition cost, not just in-platform ROAS.

Where Meta Ads works best

The platform suits businesses where the product can be shown, the decision is fast, or the audience is not actively searching yet:

How we work

How we run Meta accounts.

Fix the signal, then feed the algorithm creative — in that order.

01

Audit & tracking setup

Review structure, spend efficiency and creative history, then verify that conversion tracking and the Conversion API are configured properly. Poor signal undermines everything downstream.

02

Consolidate & establish baseline

Simplify fragmented campaigns so budget concentrates and the learning phase completes, set an acquisition cost target from your margins, and establish what current performance genuinely is.

03

Creative testing cadence

A regular rhythm of new concepts against proven controls, testing hooks and formats rather than minor variations. Winners scale, losers are retired, and the pipeline never stops.

04

Scale & manage fatigue

Increase budget on what clears the threshold while monitoring frequency and creative decay — Meta performance degrades predictably when the same audience sees the same ad too often.

Why creative volume beats clever targeting now

For years, Meta advertising rewarded people who were good at audience selection — layered interests, lookalike percentages, exclusions. Privacy changes reduced the data available for that, and Meta responded by making its own targeting far more capable. The result is that broad targeting with strong creative now routinely outperforms narrow targeting with weak creative.

This changes what an agency should actually be doing for you. Time that once went into audience configuration now goes into producing and testing more creative, because that is where the remaining leverage sits. An account running four ads is starved regardless of how well the targeting is set up.

It also means creative fatigue is the most common reason performance declines. The same audience seeing the same ad repeatedly produces falling response and rising costs — and the fix is new creative, not bid adjustments. Accounts without a steady creative pipeline hit a ceiling they cannot buy their way past.

On attribution

Meta will claim more credit than it earns.

Since privacy changes, in-platform reporting relies increasingly on modelling. Meta and Google will both claim the same conversion, and their combined reported revenue often exceeds what your business actually recorded. Scaling on that basis means scaling something that may not be there.

Meta is a growth channel, not a harvesting one

The most common disappointment with Meta comes from expecting it to behave like search. Businesses accustomed to Google's conversion rates find Meta's lower and conclude the platform does not work. But the comparison is unfair: one is capturing people who already decided they want something, the other is introducing you to people who did not know you existed. Judged on the same last-click metric, demand creation will always lose to demand capture.

The value shows up elsewhere — in branded search volume rising, in more direct traffic, in a larger retargeting pool and email list. A well-run Meta programme frequently improves the performance of your other channels, which is precisely the contribution last-click attribution is worst at seeing.

That said, we would rather be honest about fit. If your product needs lengthy consideration, has thin margins, or is genuinely difficult to show visually, Meta may not be the right first channel — and organic search or Google Ads would serve you better. We will tell you that in the first conversation rather than six months into a retainer.

Where it does fit, the businesses that win are the ones treating creative as an ongoing production commitment rather than a one-off asset delivery. That is the honest cost of the channel, and it is worth knowing before you start.

How much should I spend on Meta Ads?

Enough that campaigns exit the learning phase and you can test creative properly. Budget spread across too many campaigns produces poor results at any spend level. We size it from your target acquisition cost and how many conversions are needed for the algorithm to work reliably.

How many ad creatives do I need?

More than most businesses expect, and continuously rather than once. Creative is the main performance lever now, and fatigue is the main cause of decline. A steady pipeline of new concepts each month, tested against proven controls, is what sustains performance — a single batch delivered at launch will plateau.

Do Facebook ads still work after the iOS privacy changes?

Yes, though measurement is harder and setup matters more. The Conversion API restores much of the signal lost to browser restrictions, and Meta's targeting has improved to compensate. What changed is that sloppy tracking now costs you real performance, where previously the platform could work around it.

Should I target narrow audiences or broad?

Broad usually outperforms now, which reverses long-standing advice. Meta's algorithm finds responsive people more effectively than manual interest layering, provided it has good conversion signal and enough creative variety. Narrow targeting still has uses — retargeting, genuinely niche products — but it is no longer the default.

Why did my Meta ads suddenly stop working?

Most often creative fatigue — check frequency and how long the winning ads have been running. Other common causes: a tracking change breaking conversion signal, editing a campaign and resetting the learning phase, or increased competition in your auction. It is usually diagnosable within a day.

Is Meta better than Google for my business?

They do different jobs rather than competing. If people actively search for what you sell, Google usually delivers faster returns. If your product is visual, new, or solves a problem people have not named yet, Meta reaches an audience search cannot. Businesses at scale generally run both.

What is Advantage+ and should I use it?

Advantage+ is Meta's automated campaign type, handing targeting and placement decisions to the algorithm. It performs well for eCommerce with a solid catalogue and clean conversion data. As with any automation, it optimises toward what you tell it to value — so we use it with proper exclusions and creative control rather than switching it on and walking away.

Can you produce the creative or do I need to?

Either. We can direct and produce creative, work from assets you supply, or brief your existing team. What we insist on is a consistent pipeline — the channel does not perform without one, and it is the most common reason accounts stall.
